domaine547 poll: Gary Vaynerchuk
We really do like Gary, but we we’ll admit that we’re a bit disappointed that he used the Wine Blogging Wednesday theme of Naked Chardonnay yesterday, but made no mention of an important web-wine community event.

2007 Ponte de Lima Vinho Verde, Portugal
Bring a little “green” to your life with the Ponte de Lima Vinho Verde from Portugal. It’s actually a white wine - the green refers to its youth and freshness. It’s slightly effervescent and zippy, giving you the sense of a warm summer’s day on a cold winter’s night. This one is very easy on the wallet to boot, at just eleven buckaroos! 2007 Cortes de Cima Chaminé Red Blend
Yummy Portuguese table wine that’s a blend of Aragonez (aka Tempranillo), Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, and a smidgen of Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s just asking to be paired with winter stews of braised meats. A great value at $19 a bottle.Buy Cortes de Cima Chaminé
2005 Amavi Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla: #42 Wine Spectator in the Top 100 of 2008!
OK, don’t screw the WS top 100! This came in at #42 and it deserves at least that. It’s the only reasonably priced domestic cab on their list, and we love it. It’s deep and rich and generous with the oaky vanilla — but not cloyingly so. Yay for #42 - just $28.

Cellartracker Embraces Twitter:
If you’re interested in wine and want a way to keep track of wines you’ve tasted, or bottles in your collection, a great place to do so is the site CellarTracker. Go over there and familiarize yourself with it. It’s really easy to use and offers the largest database of wines, along with a huge community of users who frequently post tasting notes.
Eric LeVine, the mastermind behind CellarTracker has recently become a Twitter user. You can follow him on Twitter here. And in a very significant feature addition to CellarTracker, Eric has just enabled Twitter functionality for all CellarTracker users, so that when you write a new tasting note, it will automatically post to Twitter with a link back to the CellarTracker data. Eric’s explanation and instructions can be found here.
This combo of two killer apps, a niche wine community with a Web 2.0 pioneer, could be a game changer.
(My apologies to Tim Elliott whose voice I seem to be parroting with this post!)

wine jargon
Frizzante
From Wikipedia: Frizzante is an Italian wine term term for semi-sparkling wine (as opposed to Spumante, which is generally used for fully sparkling wines). Frizzante wines generally owe their bubbles to a partial secondary fermentation in tank. You might notice a light fizz or tingly sensation on the tongue with a Frizzante wine, compared to the more carbonated sensation that more fully sparkling wines yield.
Scorekage
Okay, so we made up this word yesterday after a great restaurant experience. We brought a bottle of wine with us, expecting to pay a corkage fee. But the restaurant either forgot to charge us the $15, or decided to be nice to us. We scored! Hence, “scorekage” has entered our lexicon. This can also refer to BYO friendly restaurants that don’t charge for corkage under any circumstances.

Check out this blog post where they actually refer to somebody from d547 as a “wine expert.” Shocking! In any case, the Imbibe blog offers a nice recipe to go along with one of our wine recommendations. Enjoy!

I loved Gary’s show yesterday. I have been watching WineLibrary TV for a long time, and I’ve mentioned him in my blog several times. He’s a big part of why I like wine.
Gary is driven (in a good way) by the idea of building a wine community. Corkd, Myspace, Facebook, etc. I am so glad that he got wind of the WBW concept and has joined us.
I am absolutely 100% sure it was an oversight on his part to not “mention” where the theme for the show came from.
He’s bringing a lot of new wine drinkers into the wine lovers fold by giving them the confidence needed to trust their own noses and palates.
I am sure that he would be happy to give up props for our wine community next month and put a link on his page to our winebloggingwednesday.com page. He’s just a stand up guy like that.

Kathleen, we hope you’re right. But we brought up the issue since it seemed to be a pretty glaring omission to us. After all, WLTV advertises on at least a half dozen blogs who are participants in (if not founders of) WBW, and Gary was all a-twitter about the Naked theme (as were others).
So it’s pretty safe to assume that Gary was apprised of the event, since it would be uncharacteristic for Gary to be unaware of ANY goings-on in the wine 2.0 community. Like, totally, utterly uncharacteristic.
As you say, Gary’s also a pretty “driven” guy, and if he were going to “join us” then it would be surprising for him not to acknowledge the event — if only to discuss the positive signs of a healthy, growing wine community; that is, unless he has begun to concern himself more with his own fanbase (aka Vaynernation) than with the overall community, at large.
Yes, community is clearly important to Garyvee. Yes, he is bringing wine to a larger audience. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t losing sight of what has brought him so far up to this point.
Beware the cult of personality.

Hey guys. I had been hounding Gary for weeks to participate, and he did! That’s the exciting part.
Sure, he forgot to mention WBW, but that’s okay. I talked to him yesterday about it and he was VERY apologetic and promised to make it up to the WBW crew next month
Gary’s a good guy…let’s not give him a hard time about this.

Hi everyone. So Gary’s comments all wound up in our SPAM filter, which we just noticed at this bright early 6:30AM PST perusal. In fact, Gary’s comments have only ever landed in our SPAM filter, and we’re not quite sure why? Any thoughts?
So we should probably add “Gary is a mensch” or “give Gary the benefit of the doubt” to the poll, and appreciate his apology (and can’t wait to see what he does to make it up to us!).

we should add, we see a whole “gary is sorry” video series coming out of this…every time gary apologies, he must make a seven part video series to make up for it!
